Shiba Inu - big dog in small body!

This proud breed goes all the way back to the Jouman period in Japan (before 300BC).It is the most popular dog breed in Japan-with more than 1 million registered.

The Shiba Inu is almost like a cat-always cleaning itself and possessing the amazing ability to climb. They are extremely intelligent and have retained strong instincts to hunt.

Appearance

Shiba Inu's are attractive with their fox like expressions, brush tails and hooded ears. Males are quite muscular in appearance. 

Temperament

The Shiba Inu is a free-spirited dog that makes a loyal and loving companion. They can adapt to any environment and are happy to live indoors as long as they receive adequate exercise.The make good watchdogs but can be aggressive towards other dogs. They do have a stubborn streak so early socialisation and obedience training is needed.

Their thick, medium length double coat requires a weekly brush. A thorough comb out must be done around the time of shedding-this happens twice a year.
