Dr David Mason BVSc MACVSc CMAVA CertBA - Veterinarian
I graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1999, and started my veterinary career at the Whittlesea Animal Hospital in Victoria, working with both large and small animals for three years. In 2002 I undertook a Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. Next I went to work as a vet in the UK for 12 months and have been with the Adelaide Animal Hospital team since July 2004. I still have a strong interest in surgery, recently receiving my Membership of the College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Surgery. I also have an interest in ultrasonography and radiography.
In my spare time I enjoy cycling, snow skiing and bushwalking, as well as the renovation of our newly acquired, but quite old home, and spending time with my wife and daughter. I have a dog, a cat and "agisted" chickens and rabbits.
Dr Nina Bray B.Sc., B.V.M.S. (Hons) - Veterinarian
I have been lucky enough to be working at the Adelaide Animal Hospital for two years now. I thoroughly enjoy my time at work, with the diversity of cases and great team keeping me motivated. In 2008 I completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Ophthalmology through Sydney University.
I graduated from Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia in 2002. After graduation I worked in mixed practice in Denmark, WA. During my time in WA I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. After this I went to the UK, where I worked for two years, in between travelling in Africa, Europe and the United Kingdom.
It was in the UK that I met my fiancé, Garry. We now live in Mount Barker with our cat, Max, whom some of you may recall from past newsletters. We have recently added Matilda, an exuberant Labrador, to our family as well.
Having grown up in Strathalbyn, I was very happy to return to South Australia after several years away. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cooking and straightening out the gardening in our new home.
Dr Kirsten Aberle BVSc (Hons) - Veterinarian M.A.C.V.S., C.M.A.V.A
Originally from Melbourne, I started my Veterinary career in a mixed animal clinic in the Victorian high country, as well as developing my cow and horse skills. I also developed a love of snow skiing and the outdoors.
Following this, I worked in small animal practice in Melbourne and then for six months in the UK, where treating hamsters, guinea pigs and other "pocket pets" was the norm. After travelling for six months through parts of Europe I returned to Australia and decided to settle in Adelaide. Last year I completed a 12 month post graduate course in Internal Medicine and have interest in this and Emergency medicine.
I have just returned from maternity leave and will be working part-time. I live here with my husband David, our baby girl Elizabeth, two 9 year old dogs Alice (a Silky Cross Jack Russell) and Darcy (a Cairn terrier) and our huge ginger cat Benny. Outside of work I enjoy walking the dogs in the park, reading, playing sports and keeping in touch with friends and family.

I am originally from Melbourne, VIC, and obtained my veterinary degree at Murdoch University in WA. I have moved to Adelaide with my beautiful 3 yr old Kelpie cross Baci, for the amazing opportunity to work with the brilliant, knowledgeable, skillful and supportive Adelaide Animal Hospital team.
All my life I have been passionate about animals and their welfare, and becoming a veterinarian was my dream. I am excited to finally put all my hard years of training and study into practice. Over the years to come I hope to broaden and strengthen my knowledge and skills in topics of special interest to me including animal behaviour, internal medicine, surgery, and ultrasonography.
When I'm not busy being a vet, I love being outdoors - particularly the beach and ocean, surfing, running with my dog, going to the gym, dancing and music, traveling, reading, and spending ‘quality time' with my wonderful family and friends.

Jane Ellery - Veterinarian B.Sc B.M.V.S (HONS)
I am an Adelaide girl who completed my veterinary degree at Murdoch University in Perth, WA. After graduation with honours from Murdoch in 2001, I worked in a small animal practice in Adelaide for four years. I then embarked on a working holiday in the UK for two years that allowed me to experience vet work in the UK as well as the opportunity to travel throughout Europe.
After returning to locum in Adelaide in April, I started work at Prospect Road Veterinary Hospital in August 2008. I am looking forward to doing a postgraduate course in small animal medicine in 2010 with a view to completing my membership the following year. I have a special interest in cats and have a very precious white domestic short haired called Ertha Kit. Hayley McPhee - Veterinarian B.V.Sc
I graduated from the University of Queensland in 1989. I spent the first half of my career in referral equine/small animal practices here and interstate, as well as the obligatory UK/European working holiday for 12 months. I then decided to concentrate solely on a career with dogs and cats. After a short stint locuming, I started at Prospect Rd Veterinary Hospital when it was only a two vet practice. How times have changed.
I have undertaken 12 month post graduate courses in Radiology, Surgery and Behavioural Medicine through the University of Sydney. I enjoy soft tissue surgery, internal medicine and have a particular interest and empathy for canine behaviour problems, especially anxiety and aggression.
Currently I work part time, devoting the rest of my time to bringing up two small, exuberant children and failing in my duties as a domestic goddess. Apart from going to Qld to see family and friends, my travelling plans are curtailed for the moment, but I have trekked in the Indian Himalayas and participated in desexing Indian street dogs. When I get the chance, I like walking, cycling and the occasional hit of tennis.
Our family shares our home with Fergus, an adorable golden Kelpie x Labrador, who has taught me a lot and is the reason I now have such a keen interest in behaviour. Sherman, the little bowed legged Jack Russell Terrier is the reason we do not own a cat.
I enjoy working in this busy practice with it's interesting and varied caseload and look forward to any changes and improvements a change of ownership will bring.

I have had many pets growing up and currently own a cat named Kyan who came into the Hospital as a stray, a hand-raised ringtail possum named Scooter, and Zac, a Kelpie cross.
Sarah Zarko - Animal Caretaker
I have recently commenced working at the Adelaide Animal Hospital as an Animal Caretaker. So far I have found the work both rewarding and challenging. I find everyone at the hospital knowledgeable and helpful and I am looking forward to my future at the Adelaide Animal Hospital. I am currently studying Certificate II in Animal Studies with the hope that this will lead me to vet nursing.
I also volunteer at the RSPCA, which I find very rewarding. At home I have three cats - Milly, Fluff Puff and Hobby - and three dogs - Sampson, Ruby and a seven month old British Bulldog named Daisy. Growing up we have always had a variety of different pets, including birds, dogs, cats, turtles and frogs.
Laura Cornish - Animal Caretaker
I have been working with Prospect Road Vet Hospital since February 2009, starting as an Animal Caretaker. I am currently studying Certificate II in Animal Studies and loving both the learning and work aspects of my role in the clinic and at TAFE. I have always loved animals and now I can say that I am able to work with them every day. So far, I'm not sure which direction I would like to take within the animal industry, but I do enjoy it when I get an opportunity to work on the front desk.
At home I have two male Labradors, Boof and Comet, one female Maltese, Pippa, and one male Jack Russell named Elvis. Last, but not least, my two beautiful cats, Sophie and Tips.
Kerrin Parslow - Animal Caretaker
I have recently joined the Adelaide animal hospital as an animal caretaker.
Working with animals has been a great passion of mine since I was a little girl and I have had a large array of animals over the years. I have finally been given the opportunity to pursue my dream. After being in hospitality management for many years, I have begun studies in animal care, in the hope to continue with my training to become a vet nurse.
I am really looking forward to leaning as much as I can at this wonderful practice and working with the amazing animals that come through our doors.
I have two wonderful dogs in my family, Canyon my beautiful Chihuahua and Charlie a cheeky moodle and a fiancé!! We will definitely be adding to our animal family soon.
Maria Kafkakis – Animal Caretaker
I have recently started this exciting venture as an animal caretaker with the Adelaide Animal Hospital. With the retail industry in my past and the animal industry my passion I now am very much looking forward to embarking on this new path.
There is so much diversity at the hospital as to where I can take this role and at this point I am just absorbing as much as I can to further myself and see where I can go. This is the beginning of a wonderful challenge.
The team at Adelaide Animal Hospital are a wonderful lot who all share a great love for the industry so the transition from retail has been an easy one. Thankyou!
Gloria Gore - Accounts Manager
I have been working at Adelaide Animal Hospital since December 1997. My role is bookkeeping, along with many other clerical duties. I have always worked in clerical positions and have always enjoyed this type of work, along with courses I have done in computing and accounting. I did work in a craft giftware business for about nine years when my boys were young. I served customers and also packed orders to be sent out by couriers. This business was sold and went to Melbourne and that is when I started at Adelaide Animal Hospital.
I am married and as I've said before have 2, now grown up, boys named Ryan and Adam. They are tertiary students, and live at home with us in the Adelaide Hills.
We adopted two stray cats named Timmy and Tildy (short for Matilda), from Adelaide Animal Hospital in 1999. Timmy is a very relaxed cat, and Tildy was a little anxious, but in her old age is becoming more smoochy, to our delight. We also adopted a stray female Tenterfield named Lucy in 2000 who is always energetic. We enjoy their company and wouldn't be without them now.
Other than working I enjoy reading, dining out, catching up with friends and family, and going for walks with Lucy.
I enjoy working at Adelaide Animal Hospital and look forward to the ever bright future with the great AAH team.
I like to sleep in the newspaper box, as you can see by my photo! I also really like rabbits – I love to sit and stare at them when they are in their beds. Although I’m not a lap cat, I do like a good smooch and a strong pat.
My favourite foods are dry biscuits and tuna. I love to play and my special toy is a crinkly cellophane ball but I will play with anything.
I don’t sit in the waiting room like Charlie does because I get easily scared of new places, but I love living in the hospital. I am inquisitive and like dogs too.
Charlie - Adelaide Clinic Cat
Hello, my name is Charlie but the nurses call me Charlie Nerms (I'm not sure why!).
In 1996, when I was a kitten, I was brought into the Hospital after I was hit by a car. Back then, the Hospital was called the Magill Road Vet Clinic and was in the old red brick building further up Magill Road. My pelvis was broken badly, but Dr Foreman fixed it and kept me as a clinic cat.
I love living at the Hospital. I get very scared when I have to go outside in my carry cage. I like lounging in the sun on the chairs in the waiting room and I like to trick people into thinking I am a toy when I am sleeping quietly in my basket!
I am on a strict diet because I have a sensitive stomach but I love the odd piece of yummy chicken.
I like other cats and dogs, but I am funny around German Shepherds after I got bitten by one in the waiting room a few years ago.
I am pretty quiet these days and I like to sleep a lot but sometimes I will get a burst of energy and play with my toys. I especially love to play with string.
Lola - Burnside Clinic Cat
Lola came to live with us at our Burnside Vet Clinic when she was 4 years old in 2004. She is very quiet by nature and fits into the clinic cat life with ease, although there are times when she escapes to her bedroom for some time out from the extra energetic dogs and kids.
Lola just loves her dinner and has been on a diet for as long as we can remember, which has paid off. When she came to us she weighed 9kg and is now down to a much healthier 7kg.
She also has a very busy daily schedule and likes routine. It starts by eating breakfast, scratching her claws on the mat that sits on the scales, sitting on the counter at reception, snoozing in the sunny patches that come through the windows and then eating dinner.
Lola's favourite junk food is potato chips and will try to swipe them from your hand when you're not looking. Of course she is not allowed to have them!
Lola occasionally helps us out with our blood donor program, and in return just loves sitting on a lap for a pat.
Jaffa - Burnside Clinic Cat
Jaffa was a stray cat who was part of the cat adoption program, although many people who had pets already fell in love with Jaffa. During his time with us he won over our hearts and was adopted as a clinic cat.
Jaffa is energetic and a bit of a socialite, he loves greeting anyone who comes in the door including dogs, cats and kids. Jaffa loves entertaining some of the younger boarding cats who love to play; he would play all day with them if he could. However he does have some naughty moments though. He loves to pounce on Lola knowing that she will not be impressed. Although recently Lola has started to tell him off and put him back in his place.
Jaffa also assists from time to time in our blood donor program.
Fred - Prospect Clinic Cat
Hi! I am Fred and I live at the Prospect Rd Vet Hospital. I arrived with my sister Ginger as a stray late in 1997. We lived together until Ginger went to live with one of our clients. She writes to me regularly. I am very laid back and you will often find me lounging on the front desk or in the vets office laying near the sunny window. I like to steal the nursing bottle rubber teats and play with them up and down the hallway because they bounce well. I am also known to take a few liver treats - but I know I am not supposed to!
I like to drink from running water from the taps and will bug the girls until they turn one on for me. I also love my pats and am very smoochy, often getting in the girls way when they are on the computer just so I can have a pat!
I love to go outside every now and then but I am quite street smart and never go onto Prospect Rd, I just stay in the carpark meeting and greeting clients and their pets. I even like dogs! I used to donate blood, but I have decided to retire from that duty as I reach my golden years. Come in and say hello sometime, I would love to meet you!
