Dr David Mason - Practice Owner/ Veterinarian

  • B.V.Sc, MAC.V.Sc, CMAVA, Cert.BA

I graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1999, and started my veterinary career at the Whittlesea Animal Hospital in Victoria, working with both large and small animals for three years. After this, my wife and I worked in the UK before returning to Australia and settling in Adelaide. I have undertaken further study in small animal surgery, gaining my membership of the Australian College in Small Animal Surgery in 2005. I also have a strong interest in ultrasonography, in which I have undertaken further specific training.

I enjoy spending time with my wife and two young children, and value any time spent snow skiing and bushwalking. Currently we have a cat, "agisted" chickens and rabbits at home.

Dr Bryony Senic - Veterinarian

  • B.Sc.
  • B.V.M.S.

I am originally from South Australia, spending time both in a small country town on the Eyre Peninsula and in Adelaide for my secondary schooling years. I completed my veterinary degree at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia in 2007 and have been working with the wonderful team at Adelaide Animal Hospital since January 2008. I also have a particular interest in both surgery, emergency and internal medicine, and hope to further my studies in these areas in the future.

I have two dogs Ebony, a black Labrador, and Pixie, a black Cocker Spaniel. In my spare time I enjoy running, walking my dogs, being outdoors, playing sports, reading, cooking, travelling and socialising with my friends and family. I am currently completing a post graduate course in ultrasonography through the University of Sydney.

Dr Piri Cutts - Veterinarian

  • B.Sc
  • B.V.M.S.

I am originally from Melbourne. I obtained my veterinary degree at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. I have moved to Adelaide with my beautiful 3 year old Kelpie cross, Baci, for the amazing opportunity to work with the brilliant, knowledgeable, skillful and supportive Adelaide Animal Hospital team.

All my life I have been passionate about animals and their welfare, and becoming a veterinarian was my dream. I am excited to finally put all my hard years of training and study into practice. Over the years to come I hope to broaden and strengthen my knowledge and skills in topics of special interest to me including animal behaviour, internal medicine, surgery, and ultrasonography.

When I am not busy being a vet, I love being outdoors, particularly the beach and ocean, surfing, running with my dog, going to the gym, dancing and music, travelling, reading, and spending 'quality time' with my wonderful family and friends.

Dr Kylie Clifford - Veterinarian

  • B.V.Sc

I have worked with Adelaide Animal Hospital since June 2008. I graduated from Melbourne University in 1998 and worked in mixed animal practices in country Victoria before heading to the UK for two and a half years. I was a locum in several practices in between travelling extensively and also worked on the foot and mouth outbreak in 2001.

I have been working in small animal practice in Adelaide since 2002 and from October 2010 I am permanently based at our Burnside Veterinary Centre. I have an interest in feline medicine and our clinic offers a particularly cat friendly environment. I look forward to meeting you and your feline friends including any other pets very soon.

Outside of work, my passion is the Argentine tango and I spend most of my time involved with dancing and socialising with friends and family.

Dr Chiew Lian Khut - Veterinarian

  • B.V.Sc
  • B.Sc (Biomedical Science)

Chiew completed her veterinary training at The University of Melbourne in 2006. After working at a small animal practice in Melbourne, she returned to Adelaide to be close to her family and friends, and joined Adelaide Animal Hospital in December 2008.

She is currently undertaking post-graduate studies in Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology). She lives with her partner Eric and their four year old cat, Mr Darcy. She also shares her parent's Jack Russell Terriers, Molly and Phoebe. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and has a special love for cacti and succulents. One of her many dreams is to have an extensive, sustainable garden in the future.

Dr Hayley McPhee - Veterinarian

  • B.V.Sc
  • Post Graduate Radiology
  • Post Graduate Surgery
  • Post Graduate Behavioural Medicine

I graduated from the University of Queensland in 1989. I spent the first half of my career in referral equine/ small animal practices here and interstate, as well as the obligatory UK/ European working holiday for 12 months. I then decided to concentrate solely on a career with dogs and cats. After a short stint locuming, I started at Prospect Road Veterinary Hospital when it was only a two vet practice. How times have changed.

I have undertaken 12 month post graduate courses in Radiology, Surgery and Behavioural Medicine through the University of Sydney. I enjoy studying soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and have a particular interest and empathy for canine behaviour problems, especially anxiety and aggression.

Currently I work part time, devoting the rest of my time to bringing up two small, exuberant children and failing in my duties as a domestic goddess. Apart from going to Queensland to see family and friends, my travelling plans are curtailed for the moment but I have trekked in the Indian Himalayas and participated in desexing Indian street dogs. When I get the chance, I like walking, cycling and the occasional hit of tennis.

Our family shares our home with Fergus, an adorable golden Kelpie x Labrador, who has taught me a lot and is the reason I now have such a keen interest in behaviour. Sherman, the little bowed legged Jack Russell Terrier is the reason we do not own a cat.

I enjoy working in this busy practice with its interesting and varied caseload and, look forward to any changes and improvements a change of ownership will bring.

Dr Stephanie Ortega - Veterinarian

  • B.V.M.S (Hons)

I am originally from Wisconsin USA but have been living in Australia for over 13 years. I completed my veterinary degree at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, in 2006. After graduating I moved to Port Augusta in South Australia where I worked in rural mixed practice for three years. I am passionate about all aspects of veterinary medicine but have special interests in ultrasonography and dentistry.

I have one wacky cat named 'Nudge' and in my spare time I enjoy reading, dancing and exploring South Australia.

Dr Alexander Gauld - Veterinarian

  • B.V.Sc (Hons)

As a child I lived on a small farm in the Adelaide Hills where we raised Jersey cows, sheep and chickens. I completed my veterinary degree at the University of Queensland in 2009. I am passionate about animals and their care, and have particularly interest in surgery and ultrasonography. I am planning to form a local indoor soccer team and enjoy the opportunity to cycle, swim, go fishing, socialise with friends and family, and play the occasional computer game. I would also like to do a bit more travelling if I could squeeze it in somewhere.

I am very excited about becoming the newest member of the Adelaide Animal Hospital team and look forward to working with such a highly skilled, professional and welcoming group.

Dr Delwyn Fenby - Veterinarian

  • B.Sc (Hons)
  • B.V.Sc (Dist)

After 12 years in the corporate world developing products for Unilever and Arnott's Biscuits, I decided to return to full-time study to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. I completed my veterinary studies at Massey University, New Zealand in 2009 and then made the decision to cross the Tasman to join the exceptional team at Adelaide Animal Hospital.

After five years of study I'm still adjusting to now having some spare time in which to do things. I love to travel and am looking forward to exploring what South Australia has to offer. I love anything to do with food and wine and was very excited to discover the central markets and to know that I am living in a city surrounded by some of the best red wine regions in the Southern Hemisphere. I attempt to balance my love of food by 'being active' and enjoy running around a netball or squash court.

I have two cats, both of whom are still in New Zealand. Fraggle has been successfully rehomed with my parents, however I hope to have my 'Abby-Tabby' Bikila join me in Adelaide later in the year.

Dr Jessica Victory - Veterinarian

  • B.Sc.
  • B.V.M.S.
  • Post Graduate in Internal Medicine

Jessica grew up in Adelaide before moving to Perth in 1999 to pursue her veterinary career. She attended Murdoch University Veterinary School and received the Surgery Prize in her final year. From 2004 to early 2006 she worked in a veterinary emergency and referral hospital in Perth with thirteen other vets. In 2008 Jessica completed further study in small animal internal medicine, and developed a keen interest in internal and emergency medicine as well as soft tissue surgery and alternative therapies.

Jessica married her husband in 2007 and the couple have two pets, Baxter the cat and Groova the dog.

Dr Hollie Hodgkinson - Veterinarian

  • B.V.Sc (Hons)

Hollie grew up in Brisbane and after a brief period dabbling in music and psychology she completed a Veterinary Science degree at the University of Queensland in 2009. Looking for a change in scenery she was drawn to the country's wine capital and started her career in a busy mixed practice in South Australia.

Hollie has recently joined the team at Adelaide Animal Hospitals and is enjoying getting to know all the regular patients and their owners. She has a keen interest in emergency medicine and is undertaking postgraduate study in this area.

Dr Judi Doidge - Veterinarian

  • B.Sc
  • B.V.Sc

I am originally from Durban in South Africa but have been in Adelaide for 3 years. I graduated from the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 2008. Prior to that I had the privilege of working as an animal trainer at Sea World in Durban, South Africa, where I trained and looked after seals, penguins and dolphins. Most of my life I have been drawn to water and all water related activities doing everything from life-saving (both fresh and salt water) and water polo to synchronised swimming. I was even lucky enough to represent my country in synchronised swimming at numerous championships including world championships and commonwealth games.

From a young age I was intent on saving as many animals in distress as I could and was always bringing something home to look after (much to my parents delight!) So it was no surprise to family and friends when I pursued a career in veterinary science.

My family includes my husband Warren and my young Staffie cross Luca, but life is about to take a radical turn soon with our first baby expected in February next year 2012.

Dr Emily Cameron - Veterinarian

  • B.V.M.S (Hons1)
  • B.Sc

I am originally from Adelaide, and am happy to be living here again after spending a lot of time overseas and interstate in the last 15 years. After school, I spent a year on exchange in France, before heading to Murdoch University in Perth for my veterinary studies. I graduated in 2000, and returned to Adelaide to work in small animal practice for just over two years. I then spent nearly two years travelling in Europe and financing my travels with some locum work in the UK. I then returned to small animal practice in Adelaide for about three years, before moving to Canberra to work in another ASAVA accredited hospital for over two years. I have completed postgraduate studies in Ophthalmology and really enjoy challenging medical cases and oncology.

I married my husband, Hamish, during our time in Canberra, and we moved back to Adelaide when we found out we were expecting our first child. I started working part time at Goodwood Road Veterinary Clinic in August 2010, and our daughter, Lucy, was born in December 2010. I now spend most of my time as a mum but have been enjoying my return to work. We have two very well loved dogs - Noddy, a Beagle Cross I rescued while in Perth, and Ellie, a Staffy x everything (100% Bitsa as proven by DNA testing!) we rescued while in Canberra. They both have a lot of love (mostly licks) to give, and have been really good with Lucy. In the next few years I am hoping to continue some part time work while caring for our young family.

Dr Joshua Dearness - Veterinarian

Previously I worked in a busy small animal hospital in South Australia before joining the wonderful Adelaide Animal Hospital team in January 2012.

Joined the Adelaide Animal Hospital team in September 2004 as Practice Manager, before this I was employed by Mayne Pharmaceuticals for twelve years in a middle management role. I am very passionate about animals and their well being, I have always brought my own gorgeous Golden Retrievers Maxy and Suzy here in the past and I am confident in the hospital's ability and care of my animals. I love all animals and am prone to collecting strays along the way and helping them find their way home.

My other interests include playing competitive squash, travelling anywhere especially if there is snow skiing involved or heat sun and a pool or a beach. My favourite hobby though is spending time with Maxy and Suzy and their friends at the park.

I am very enthusiastic about my role and have a passion for organising and planning the daily and future operations of the hospital and helping the staff meet their goals. The Adelaide Animal Hospital is a great place to work with a great team of highly qualified vets, nurses and receptionists. I look forward to my future here and hope to meet many clients and many more beautiful animals along the way.

Sharon has been welcomed to the Adelaide Animal Hospital team to assist in the human resources management of the business, an area that relates directly to her practical experience across a diverse range of industries in Human Resources, Administration and Customer Service along with her degree qualification attained in 2005 at the Adelaide University.

Sharon has joined our team after recently playing a key senior role in establishing a new Adelaide Hills small business that today, is thriving in its industry with local community support. Her drive and enthusiasm for working with people and animals has brought her to Adelaide Animal Hospital where she intends to play an integral role in the continued development of a successful and rewarding workplace culture for our staff, an incredible customer service excellence for our customers and an enjoyable attentive experience for our patients.

In her own time, Sharon is an active home renovator, garden designer of her own garden, paints in oils when time permits and enjoys maintaining a healthy active lifestyle. Always by her side is her jet black and ever-so-loving Cocker Spaniel, Billy, who truly believes that every visitor visits the home only for him and who, on joining the family, was formally knighted by her youngest son as 'Sir Billy Black Buddy Boy Wynd'. Yes, Billy is definitely King of our Castle!

Gloria Gore - Accounts Manager

  • Certificate II in Accounting

I have been working at Adelaide Animal Hospital since December 1997. My role is bookkeeping, along with many other clerical duties. I have always worked in clerical positions and have always enjoyed this type of work, along with courses I have done in computing and accounting. I did work in a craft giftware business for about nine years when my boys were young. I served customers and also packed orders to be sent out by couriers. This business was sold and went to Melbourne and that is when I started at Adelaide Animal Hospital.

I am married and as I've said before have 2, now grown up, boys named Ryan and Adam. They are tertiary students, and live at home with us in the Adelaide Hills.

We adopted two stray cats named Timmy and Tildy (short for Matilda), from Adelaide Animal Hospital in 1999. Timmy is a very relaxed cat, and Tildy was a little anxious, but in her old age is becoming more smoochy, to our delight. We also adopted a stray female Tenterfield named Lucy in 2000 who is always energetic. We enjoy their company and wouldn't be without them now.

Other than working I enjoy reading, dining out, catching up with friends and family, and going for walks with Lucy.

I enjoy working at Adelaide Animal Hospital and look forward to the ever bright future with the great AAH team.

Mia Saccardo - Accounts Coordinator

  • Certificate IV in Frontline Management
  • Certificate IV in Finance
  • Associate Diploma in Computer Applications

I am a new addition to the Adelaide Animal Hospital team and commenced my role as Accounts Coordinator in October 2011. I was previously employed by BHP Billiton for 8 years and during this time I had two boys - Jesse who is 4 and Jake is 18 months old. I eventually decided to steer away from the corporate world and couldn't pass up the opportunity to work for such a passionate and rewarding organization such as Adelaide Animal Hospitals.

I have a Beagle named Sheba who is 12 years old and a Maltese x Chihuahua named Solomon who is 8. Sheba's strong nose always lands her in strife and Solomon is my teddy bear, cuddly and very cute.

I was born in the UK and migrated with my family in 1988. I love Australia and the beautiful beaches but I do miss having a white Christmas and hope one day to take my family there to experience one again. When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and keeping fit in between juggling my demanding children. I also enjoy cooking, especially baking my favorite Nigella Lawson recipes.

I am looking forward to a long and exciting career at Adelaide Animal Hospitals.

I also have a crazy 3yr old Rotti called Maya, who makes me laugh in some way every day. Maya loves to go for walks, watch TV, make new friends and tear apart soccer balls. She is my "toddler in disguise".

I look forward to meeting all the clients and their beloved pets, or as I call mine "my four legged hairy daughter".

Jacqui Johnson - Client Relations

  • Certificate IV in Firstline Management

I was very fortunate to start work with the fantastic team at the Prospect Road Veterinary Clinic early 2010. Coming from a background of Retail and Office Management, it has been an absolute dream to be able to incorporate these skills within the animal care industry.

Previously I had been able to focus my love for animals, not only by sharing my life with my old, faithful friend, my domestic long hair cat Marley, but through my volunteer work with the Fauna Rescue Society. I have now also recently taken in an abandoned Collie cross pup, Bowie. He has been a perfect addition to our home and has been a great way to learn in detail the ins and outs of puppy training and care.

Along with my husband Steve, I love gardening, cooking from the garden, and getting away on camping trips. I also captain two social netball teams, and in my spare time catch up with my friends and family as regularly as possible.

Since my time with the Prospect Road Veterinary Hospital, I have been amazed at the knowledge and skills of the friendly, helpful team and am thoroughly enjoying continuing to build my knowledge of the animal care industry, and getting to know the pet owners and the pets that we so diligently care for here at the Hospital.

Louise Blasbery - Client Relations

  • Certificate IV in Business Administration

For as long as I remember I have wanted to work with animals and I am so excited to be part of the team at Adelaide Animal Hospital. I have two mischievous Siberian Huskies of my own named Mya and Kaley, along with two cuddly budgies, Alfie and Georgie. I also have a very energetic canary called Crookshanks. I love to travel and see new places and make it a priority wherever I go to visit the local animal sanctuaries!

I look forward to all the little surprises and challenges that my new role in Client Relations will bring and can't wait to meet all our customers.

Debbie Hinge - Client Relations

I started my career in retail pharmacy and worked in the hospitality industry for many years thereafter. This career path allowed me to acquire a diverse range of skills in many areas including customer service, administration and more recently marketing/ promotions. However, I believe life is a journey and I am now blessed to have been welcomed as the newest member of the team at Adelaide Animal Hospital, allowing me to pursue my life long dream of working with animals.

It is a priviledge and an honour to be working for a company with such high standard of professionalism. I am certain my new role will be both challenging and rewarding, and I am looking forward to being able to provide the very best service to our clients and their much loved pets.

I share my home with my husband and two youngest children. We have two little dogs, a Jack Russell X Chihuahua named Tinky (Queen of the house) and a Moodle named Billy (King of the house). Our newest addition to the family is a very loving Burmese kitten named Miley. I am proud to say we have a house full of love and cuddles!

Tracey Hunt - Veterinary Nursing Coordinator

  • Certificate in Veterinary Nursing

I commenced working as a veterinary nurse in 1987 in a mixed animal practice in Queensland. As I was still at school when I started nursing I could only work after school, weekends and school holidays, so in 1989 when I moved with my family to Adelaide I gained a full time position in a veterinary practice where I worked for ten and a half years as a veterinary nurse. During this time I qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1991 and received an Australasian award for Excellence in Veterinary Nursing in 1996.

In 1999 I joined the team at Adelaide Animal Hospital. I worked in the capacity as Practice Manager until October 2004 when I took maternity leave for the arrival our second child. After 7 months maternity leave I returned to Adelaide Animal Hospital as a Veterinary Nurse. Two children were not enough so along came the third in June 2006 and once again I have returned to Adelaide Animal Hospital.

I am very passionate about veterinary nursing and the veterinary industry in general. During my career I have been actively involved in committees relating to the veterinary industry and am currently a committee member on the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia on both Divisional and National levels.

My family includes my two beautiful daughters, Claire born October 2002 and Kate born November 2004, a handsome son Lachlan born June 2006 and my husband Stuart. I am a devoted pet owner with two cats - Sonia and Pascal and a beautiful Golden Retriever called Jake.

I learnt to love many different sorts of creatures and today I have two cats named Isosceles and Nakion, one very naughty but adorable Kelpie x named Bailey, a ferret named Valley, two pythons named Barry and Anastasia, and two long billed corellas named Izzie and Felix. On top of my pets I have a strong interest in wildlife and have a small colony of plains rats, fat tailed dunnarts and spinifex hopping mice. My husband and I also have a few large aviaries stocked with small soft bills, conures and cockatiels, plovers and stone curlews.

Stephanie Nicholson - Veterinary Nurse

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

I have been a part of the Adelaide Animal Hospital team since 2008. I am a qualified veterinary nurse and have recently completed a course in Emergency medicine. I have always had a passion of nursing and since I began my course, I knew I wanted to work in an emergency clinic just like Adelaide Animal Hospitals. I have a passion for animals and thrive on the challenges they bring everyday.

I have 2 dogs and a cat of my own - German Shepherd cross named Charlie, a Maltese cross Shi Tzu named Callie and a cheeky female domestic long haired cat named Billie who came to the clinic as an adult stray.

Veterinary nursing is a challenging but rewarding career and working at Adelaide Animal Hospitals gives me the chance to learn and work in different situations allowing me to improve my nursing skills everyday. I love being a part of the Adelaide Animal Hospitals team. It is a fantastic place to learn and the standards of care are second to none.

Rebecca Burdon - Veterinary Nurse

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
  • Certificate II in Veterinary Nursing
  • Certificate I in Introduction to Veterinary Nursing

I joined Adelaide Animal Hospital in June 2006 as an animal caretaker after working in childcare for 5 years. Growing up in the country with animals of all kinds has always been my love. I began my studies that year and finished my veterinary nursing certificate in 2009, and thoroughly enjoy working in the industry as a qualified nurse.

Adelaide Animal Hospital has enabled me to experience many opportunities including the chance to continue to learn everyday. I particularly enjoy working out in the hospital, whether it be nursing sick patients, anaesthetic monitoring or emergencies.

In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with friends and family - and my cat Osky of course!

Leanne Hill - Veterinary Nurse

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

I have been nursing for 4 years now and have been a part of the Prospect team for a little over a year. I am currently working part time after having my beautiful baby boy Mason in March of this year. I enjoy all aspects of nursing, however emergency and surgical are two areas I want to learn more about and develop my new skills.

At home, I have a Border Collie cross called Harry, a Maltese cross Shih Tzu named Malakai, a turtle name Charlie and a very spoilt domestic cat named Princess. All of whom are adjusting to Mason being on the scene. When I am not nursing or being a mum, I sketch and paint (portraits are my
favourite), collect Eeyore memorabilia and spend time with my friends and family.

I enjoy being a part of the team at Adelaide Animal Hospitals because of the dedication and high standards of care that we offer to our patients and their owners.

At the age of thirty I decided to change my career path and landed in Heywood/ Portland Veterinary Clinic in Portland, Victoria. There I started as Customer Relations but soon discovered my interest in Orthopaedic Surgery and moved into surgery. My life took another twist and my family and I moved back to Adelaide. In February 2008, I started work at Norwood Veterinary Clinic in Adelaide and in August moved to Prospect Road Veterinary Hospital. The passion and connection that I have had with animals since I was only a small child has led me to the commencement of a long anticipated and welcomed career change working at the Adelaide Animal Hospital.

At home I have a rather extensive extended family. I have 6 cats; Frodo, Monty, Millie, Henry, Leo and Wentworth. 5 of these cats either strolled into my yard in need or were found homeless and sought refuge in our home. I also have 3 dogs; Winnie, Suzie and an 11 month old Samoyed named India.

For the past year I have been working towards obtaining my certificate in Animal Care and will begin my veterinary nursing studies in 2009. I am so excited to have now turned my desire to help animals into a reality and am so lucky to have been given the opportunity by the team at the Adelaide Animal Hospital. I eagerly look forward to the challenges and amazing experiences that working with animals will bring.

Lola - Burnside Clinic Cat

Lola came to live with us at our Burnside Vet Clinic when she was 4 years old in 2004. She is very quiet by nature and fits into the clinic cat life with ease, although there are times when she escapes to her bedroom for some time out from the extra energetic dogs and kids.

Lola just loves her dinner and has been on a diet for as long as we can remember, which has paid off. When she came to us she weighed 9kg and is now down to a much healthier 7kg.

She also has a very busy daily schedule and likes routine. It starts by eating breakfast, scratching her claws on the mat that sits on the scales, sitting on the counter at reception, snoozing in the sunny patches that come through the windows and then eating dinner.

Lola's favourite junk food is potato chips and will try to swipe them from your hand when you're not looking. Of course she is not allowed to have them!

Lola occasionally helps us out with our blood donor program, and in return just loves sitting on a lap for a pat.

Zuri - Adelaide Clinic Cat

Zuri is a gorgeous grey and white domestic short-haired cat that came to us as a stray at Adelaide Animal Hospital about 3 months ago. It was soon discovered with her physical examination that Zuri was pregnant, and had about a month before she was due.

The Adelaide Animal Hospital team decided to keep Zuri as she had such a lovable nature, and all kittens were adopted to new homes through our Cat Adoption program.

Zuri was a fantastic mother, is an active and curious girl and is always looking to explore new places including the cupboard that she has been photographed in!

Please be sure to say hello to her when you next visit our Magill Road hospital as she loves the attention!
