Daisy the Golden Retreiver's 'sticky' problem
Daisy is a lovely natured 3 year old Golden Retriever who came to see us with an ulcerated wound that was weeping on her side. It was found that she also had a high temperature.
After the examination, Dr Foreman recommended that Daisy come in to the hospital to have an anaesthetic to explore the wound further. Dr Foreman performed an abdominal ultrasound and was able to see a mass with some sort of foreign body inside of it.
Daisy went through to theatre that day, where she underwent an hour of surgery. What we found surprised us all - a large satay stick! Once Daisy had swallowed it, the stick had pierced the stomach wall, and was protruding into her abdominal cavity. This was causing the weeping wound on her side. Daisy had a fever as her body was trying to fight the infection that it was causing.
Once removed, Daisy made a very speedy recovery. After an overnight stay in the hospital, Daisy went home on a course of antibiotics and pain relief. She was very pleased to see her little brother Archie and her loving family. Daisy has made a full recovery.
